Berry Funeral Home is a strong sponsor of the LIFTsm Program, a support group for individuals who are recovering from the loss of a spouse. Our group meets in a social setting, twice a month, and enjoys dinner and a meaningful program of encouragement. Information about many facets of life is shared in the meetings, and the atmosphere is always upbeat.

LIFTsm stands for "Living Information for Today" and, the mission of our aftercare program is to encourage those recovering from grief, in the healing process of living for today. At each meeting we share feelings, enjoy the fellowship, celebrate recent birthdays, plan on living through the holidays, and make lasting friendships which sustain us in our healing. While there are no dues to pay to become a member, our dinners are normally "dutch treat."

Three meeting times are currently available:

Anyone who has lost a spouse can benefit from a regular gathering of caring individuals, who are stronger and happier because of LIFT. All are welcome to attend any meeting time and location.

For information, please call the LIFT Office at (865) 573-5438. You may also participate in our online LIFT discussion group.

Courage for a New Day is a support group for families and friends of those who have died. In this day and time it is sometimes difficult to find persons and places where you can work through the grief that is associated with the death experience. Our "Courage for a New Day" groups allow you the time and atmosphere to find healing.

Through "Courage for a New Day" you find that you are not alone. Others are experiencing the same loss, and while we each grieve individually, there are those common feelings that are shared. Above all, in our "Courage" groups you will receive encouragement. Just to be with others who are ahead of you on their road to a new normal can be encouraging.

Grieving is normal -- it is the price we pay for the love we share. While many are uncomfortable with the emotions of grief, we can often help ourselves through support groups. Reaching out to a professional or a support group is not a sign of weakness but of our determination to help ourselves.

The facilitators and counselors at "Courage for a New Day" are dedicated to helping persons find the strength that they possess and encouraging its development. Grief is something all of us must experience at some time in our lives. Through our grief support we want to make that experience a growing, enlightening, deepening experience leading to care and compassion for others as you find your "Courage for a New Day."

Courage for a New Day groups meet once a month. Currently we have two groups.

Berry Funeral Home provides these groups as a service to the community. There is no charge for participation. For more information, call 573-5438.
